6 Ways to Diversify Your Income as a Photographer
You don’t need us to remind you that the photography industry is constantly changing, and what works today may not work tomorrow. It’s frustrating for sure, but to protect yourself from slow periods (or unexpected client losses), there is something you can do: start thinking about multiple sources of income.
There are now numerous platforms available that can boost photographers' monthly earnings and diversify their income streams without much extra work. As both creative visionaries and savvy entrepreneurs, photographers can leverage these six platforms to transform their skills into revenue channels. Let’s dive in.
1. Host In-Person Workshops/Trips
If you’ve been dreaming about hosting a photography trip but have been overwhelmed by the logistics, there are now companies whose sole purpose is to make this process easy for you.
Platform: TrovaTrip
How it can help: TrovaTrip enables photographers to host trips around the globe with their communities. By taking your online communities offline, you can forge relationships with your followers, build your brand, travel the world, and make good money (seriously).
Who should try it? A successful host has a good-sized audience on social with an engaged following. Tova says that “the most important key to success is being authentic to your personal brand and relatable to your audience.”
Pros: TovaTrip handles all of the logistics (even the guide), and hosts get paid an average of $6,000 per trip.
Cons: There are no hard and fast rules as to who can be a host, but TrovaTrip recommends the following.
Instagram: 15,000+
YouTube: 15.000+
Tiktok: 50,000+
Private Community: 100+
Note: You don’t have to have to be across all of these platforms. So, if you are only on Instagram and have 15,000 followers and great engagement, you should be good.
