📸⭐️ June 2024 Photography Grants, Prizes, and Awards

A residency in Kyoto, massive grants and so much more.

Each month, the editors of Feature Shoot hand-select the best open calls for photographers.

Heading into summer, we’re featuring opportunities for photographers across all genres. A few highlights include a $20,000 grant for environmental and nature photographers, a $30,000 prize for the best in Australian photography, numerous chances to exhibit at international photo festivals, the chance to study a 170-year-old analog printing process in Kyoto, Japan (with expenses paid), and much more.

Whether you have a completed project ready for exhibition or are seeking the resources to fund a new series, there’s something in here for you.

About: The Museum of Australian Photography and the MAPh Foundation are pleased to announce that entries are now open for the 2024 Bowness Photography Prize.

MAPh invites artists at all stages of their career to submit still photo-based media including analogue and digital photography created over the last year for consideration.

Prizes: The winning work will be awarded $30,000 and will be acquired into MAPh’s nationally significant collection of Australian photographs. One artist will also be selected for the $10,000 Wai Tang Commissioning Award, which is graciously supported by Kee Wong and Stacey Wang and which will coincide with the 2025 Bowness Photography Prize exhibition season.

Entry Fee and Deadline: The entrance fee is $55AUD and the deadline for submissions is June 13, 2024 (AEST).

About: The SUGi x NAVA Photography Contest celebrates the ways we bring nature closer and bring the wild back to everyday urban settings.

We want to see greener places through your lens and your creativity. We love the notion of nature rekindling the wild side of human nature, too. We welcome all types of photography, whether you are documenting the natural world as it is today or envisioning a future paradise.

Prize: The SUGi x NAVA Photography Contest welcomes photographers of all levels from around the world to submit their work for the chance to win cash prizes totaling $10,250 with a grand prize of $4,000.

Entry Fee and Deadline: It’s free to submit and the deadline is July 1, 2024.

About: Presented by Benrido, the Hariban Award combines a 170-year-old analogue technique with contemporary photography. The award was launched in 2014 with the aim of introducing artists and photographers to collotype, an alternative photographic process. Glass plates have been used as collotype printing plates, which is why the award is called “Hariban” because “Hari” means glass plate, and “ban” means printing plate in Japanese. This Award invites professionals and amateurs alike to submit black and white photographs for a chance to win. The winners are carefully selected by a jury of international curators, publishers and artists in the field of photography.

Prizes: The Grand Prize Winner will be invited to a two-week residency in Kyoto, Japan, to collaborate with the master printers of Benrido. The 2023 Grand Prize Winner’s collotype prints will be exhibited in a solo exhibition held in the spring of the following year after their residency is complete. The winner’s artwork will be included in the official catalogue of the Hariban Award 2024, to be published in April 2025.

Entry Fee and Deadline: It costs $50 USD to enter and the deadline for submissions is June 30, 2024.
